For rice-eaters in LA — fair trade rice is coming your way. Just got an email from Ellen of ENGAGE, a non-profit that works with communities in Thailand.
I would’ve been really flattered, except she called me Sile.
Anyway, she’s working on organizing a Fair Trade Rice Farmer Speaking Tour, coming to LA Oct. 2.
Comment or email if you’re interested in helping out or having FT rice speakers come to your organization, and I’ll backchannel.

so I haven’t figured out how to reply in comments yet, how lame is that? *laugh*
Some of the childfree communities are really ugly and hateful. They use words like “breeder” to describe parents and even worse things to describe children. “crotch dropping” comes to mind. While the OP was not negative, some of the comments in the thread were to be sure. It pushes my buttons. I’m a parent. I dislike hate directed at my kids because they happen to be, well, kids!
I totally respect and agree with the need for space that is free of children, think it’s fabulous if someone chooses to be child free (we can’t all have kids or we will destroy this lovely place after all) but I think that it’d be nice if we could all have that without judgement, you know?

Agreed. A couple of my friends are going to have mini thems pretty soon, which I’m really excited about — mainly because I can knit cute booties –
