So yesterday I visited my alma mater, Fairfax High School.

And I learned that yes, indeed, the school carved my name into the Senior Achievement Board under “English,” like I was promised it’d happen when I graduated — cuz I’m nerdy like that.
I hadn’t been on campus since I graduated — but a few weeks ago I went to the Zocalo lecture about the proposed Korea-US Fair Trade Agreement. During the Q and A, a guy got up to ask if this deal would not lead to the “victimization” of LAUSD grads hoping to enter the middle class.
That guy was Alan, one of my high school teachers — so after the event ended we said hello and I made plans to visit Fairfax and chat further about, you know, the whole Villaraigosa dealio –
Which is why I was at Fairfax yesterday. And I learned a lot — including the fact that, just a couple years after I graduated, the Achievement board got filled up. The school didn’t have the money to get a new board, so high achievers from the last few years or so have not gotten their names engraved.

On the upside, this means the board with my name might remain up on the Fairfax forever — or until the next big quake –

They gave you a bogus reason. FCPS doesn’t want to acknowledge high achievers. It’s not PC.
PS, quakes are not an issue in Virginia

Jane — Perhaps you’re new to this blog? Then again, the name of the blog is green LA girl — meaning I’m referring to Fairfax High in Los Angeles, not Virginia. We have quakes here.
