[How I, a registered democrat, am voting for the environment in the June 6, 2006 primaries in California. I'm stuck voting at my old address at zip 90035. Here's my current voting list.]
My vote for the State Board of Equalization, district 4: Judy Chu.
What does the State Board of Equalization do?: According to its website, “The mission of the State Board of Equalization is to serve the public through fair, effective, and efficient tax administration.” The Board has 5 members, 4 of whom are elected by district. The 5th member’s the State Controller.

Judy Chu’s the hands-down candidate for the environment, endorsed by the California League of Conservation Voters and Sierra Club.
She’s also endorsed by LACYD and the LA Weekly, which says “As mayor of Monterey Park and then an assemblymember from that area, Judy Chu has repeatedly shown herself to be an exceptionally thoughtful, honest, progressive public official.”
Judy’s main opponent’s Jerome Horton, who funds his campaigns with tobacco money and is beloved by racetracks and power companies. The other candidates are Vonny T. Abbot and Rita Rogers; neither are expected to win.
