[How I, a registered democrat, am voting for the environment in the June 6, 2006 primaries in California. I'm stuck voting at my old address at zip 90035. Here's my current voting list.]
My vote for Secretary of State: Debra Bowen.
What does the Secretary of State do?: The SoS oversees elections as the state’s Chief Elections Officer. She / he oversees the disclosure of campaign and lobbyist financial information, the chartering of corporations, and commissioning of notaries public, along with other misc. duties. (More detailed info here)
__
Debra’s the clear choice for this campaign. She’s got the endorsement of California League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club California, California NOW PAC, LA VoteFIRE, and Democracy for America.
Debra’s a current State Senator, and she says that as SoS, she’ll establish accurate auditing of all election results and make sure all voting’s certified — esp. the new electronic voting machines. She’s a champion of Instant Runoff elections; even David of LA VoteFIRE‘s stumping for her.
The other Dem candidate for SoS is State Senator Deborah Ortiz. She has none of the above endorsements — or even a campaign website to let voters find out about her bid for the SoS.
