[How I, a registered democrat, am voting for the environment in the June 6, 2006 primaries in California. I'm stuck voting at my old address at zip 90035. Here's my current voting list.]
My vote for CA State Superintendent of Public Instruction: Jack O’Connell
What does the CA State Superintendent of Public Instruction do?: The Superintendent, elected on a nonpartisan ballot for a 4-year term, works with the California Department of Education to oversee CA’s public school system, which educates more than 7 million children and young adults in more than 9,000 schools.

Jack O’Connell’s likely to win. Most famous as the defender of the high school exit exam, O’Connell’s an incumbent running for reelection, and has wide bipartisan support.
The guy also has the endorsement of the LACYD, LA Weekly, and the Sierra Club — which is the main reason I’m voting for him.
The Dems running against him are: Daniel Bunting, a retired teacher and school superintendent who says he has the educational experience O’Connell doesn’t. Sarah L. Knopp, a South LA high school teacher and union rep who’s critical of standardized testing and more concerned about the way schools are funded. Grant McMicken, a math teacher in the Sacramento area, is concerned about career and technical education for students who aren’t college-bound.
