Noticed the new recycled Naked Juice bottles? I haven’t seen them in stores yet, but got a sample in the mail. The new bottles look like the old bottles — except they’re made of 100% post-consumer recycled materials and have little recycling signs on them announcing that fact.

So far, just the big 32 oz bottles are recycled versions — or reNEWabottles, as Naked calls them (PDF) — but the company plans to transition all bottles into reNEWabottles in 2010. The recycled bottles are recyclable too!
I’d drink more Naked if the juice were organic — but for now it’s just the containers that are getting greener. Naked juice does use Rainforest Alliance certified bananas — which are better options than regular bananas, but controversial, since the Rainforest Alliance’s standards tend to be lower than that of other ethical labels.
I did drink a few Naked juices after getting the reNEWabottle package though — and have discovered they make decent vodka mixers –

I don’t drink a lot of juice, but good to know they mix well!
Thanks!

My husband and I drink Naked Juice when we are sick but not often other than that. I was so glad to hear they are now using recycled plastic!

I love that they use a couple pounds of carboard to promote their new eco-friendly bottle

juiceguy — I’m totally with you! I was complaining to a friend about how this huge package delivery — albeit all recyclable — was totally pointless. we really are talking about a huge hunk of cardboard that showcases — huge plastic bottles…. Let’s just say the PR / marketing firm that came up with this box was clearly not v. aware of what sustainability really means. 100% recyclability doesn’t mean 100% sustainability.
To be clear I’m happy that Naked’s going from 100% virgin materials for its bottles to 100% recycled. I’m just talking about the weirdness of the marketing pitch.
