458046887 fd5e7dc187 t Nightlife sans carA week of de-car-ing in review –

Monday — to The Well in Hollywood for happy hour. Hadn’t been there for a few years — am actually not a big fan of the place — but I found out that now they have food! Yummy hummus plate.

How to: From Santa Monica, take the Metro 304 to 710, exit at Vine, then walk a block east to get to The Well. It took me about an hour — not bad considering rush hour traffic. The way back, I burned off some booze walking down Vine to Santa Monica and got straight on to the 4 to zip back home –

458046899 02fbe953b9 m Nightlife sans carTuesday — to The Penthouse in Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica. I love the yummy tarty cocktails that were pretty and sweet but not too sweet. Unfortunately, cocktails cost $15 a pop! A nice crowd for a Tuesday night though — and a nice view of the city.

How to: If you’re in Santa Monica, bike! Free bike parking (aka parking meters) right out front.

And on Wednesday, Siel rested.

458046921 6acc1538de m Nightlife sans carThursday — to the MPARK4 Theatres in Koreatown for the Subtitle Film Festival. I knew where to get off the bus, but forgot to take the addy with me and couldn’t find it, and so called Summer who looked it up for me — Thanks Summer! The entrance is in the back of the building, and the theater’s on the 3rd floor, so it was a bit tough to spot –

The soju cocktails were nice. Plus, yummy appetizers –

458046915 83ed2518b2 m Nightlife sans carHow to: From Santa Monica, hop on the Metro 720. Get off on Vermont, and walk a block west.

Friday — Plans for dinner at Leaf Cuisine, then karaoke! Public transit to Culver City’s given me grief in the past — If I take the bus, I’m planning to cab it back –

  1. I live in K-town and I try and take the bus when I can. For the subway, I have the option of walking up to Beverly and Vermont to go into hollywood, or down to Wilshire and Western to go into downtown. I think taking the bus up Western is a bit quicker into Hollywood. Although I like the alure of taking the metro. It’s too bad the metro stops running at midnight.

But the problem is the busses at night. They dont run that often, so coming home at 2am from Hollywood on the bus can prove to be a pain. At that hour, if you miss the bus, it’s an hr before the next one comes. Late at night, the bus really isn’t an option in my mind.

  2. I totally agree with the buses at night conundrum, which I’ve documented a few times. For late nights (past 1 am), you really have to have cab fare. Trying to bus it at that time or later really sucks all the fun out of going out in the first place.

But I’ve actually figured out that cabbing it — even if I do it once a week (and assuming I’m not over in Silver Lake, in which case I’d carpool or do Flexcar) — is still cheaper than owning a car. Plus, no one has to drink and drive! :)
