I seem to have replaced alcohol with baked goods — which has me investigating made-to-order organic cupcakes. Here’s a couple eco-companies I may be ordering from soon:
Sweet Debbies Organic Cupcakes. This company doesn’t just make cupcakes; tasty-looking cookies, muffins, brownies, and granola are offered too. And not only does Sweet Debbies use certified organic ingredients, the company also avoids refined sugars, opting for agave nectar and birch tree syrup to sweeten the baked goodies.
Such healthy eco goodness doesn’t come cheap, though. Cupcakes cost $3.75 a pop; cookies $2.50. And while the Paypal-linked website makes for easy web ordering, there don’t seem to be any discounts in place for bulk buys.
Still, I like that Sweet Debbies discloses all the ingredients and the nutritional info for its products. And if you order before 10 am and spend $30 or more, you get free, same-day delivery in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, West LA, Studio City and Sherman Oaks.
Ghalia Organic Desserts. The sweet stuff from this organic dessert company’s made with organic ingredients, local fruits — and fair trade chocolate too. There’s vegan Mexican Chocolate Cake, Tiramisu cupcakes, Mango Raspberry Cheesecake — and lots more tarts, cookies, and brownies.
Cupcakes cost $42 a dozen, and 9″ cakes are typically in the $60-$70 range — The mexican chocolate costs $65, for example. Call 310.351.7870 to order.

You can also find yummy cupcakes and other desserts made with local, organic, and fair trade ingredients at restaurant-bakers like Real Food Daily (though I often find their stuff way too dry) and Akasha. What’s your favorite spot for organic desserts?

WHy not make your own?

I did make some for the Obama inauguration party we threw :) But more professionally made cupcakes are a nice treat too –
