PACT: Eco-ethical undies let you pick out a color, cut, and cause

Posted by Siel in fashion (Tuesday August 18, 2009 at 9:39 am)

Don’t want to wear your eco-heart on your sleeve — or your chest? Then how about under your pants? PACT, A new organic undies company, wants you to wear your support for socio-eco causes as close to your skin as possible.

PACT organic underwear

Each of the 3 undie prints support a different cause — 826 National for literacy, ForestEthics for forest protection, and Oceana for ocean protection — with 10% of the sales from each sale going to support these nonprofits. Do-gooders can simply pick an undie design based on the cause closest to their hearts, select a style — thong, bikini, and boy shorts for women, trunk, boxer brief, and boxers for men — and their orders will arrive in a reusable cloth bag wrapped in a compostable shipping bag.

PACT’s motto, “Change Starts With Your Underwear,” is embodied in its business practices. According to PACT, all the processes that go into creating these eco-underwear — beginning with growing the cotton — are done with high environmental and social standards within a 100-mile radius in Turkey.

PACT undies — all of which are made of 95% organic cotton and 5% elastane — are sold exclusively online. Each pair costs between $22 – $28 — which aren’t exactly cheap for basic undies, but somewhat less astronomical-sounding if you consider the socio-eco-friendliness, the 10% donation to nonprofits, and the free reusable cloth bag you’ll be able to put to good use. PACT’s got me thinking maybe it’s now okay to give an eco-friend a single pair of undies as a unique birthday gift –
