Don’t forget: The second annual Park[ing] Day LA — when green space-loving activists turn car parking spots into temporary urban parks — returns this Friday!

Bicyclists: A couple special events –

>> Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition‘ll create a park at 202 W. First St., at Spring St. in front of the LA Times building from 11 am- 2 pm to “demonstrate the need for more bike parking for cyclists.” There’ll be sharrow markings and other bikey stuff.

>> Bike safety instructor and local cycling advocate Ron Durgin’s organizing a westside bike tour “to show support for the people and businesses who are hosting a park in the Santa Monica area.” Show up at the Global Green park at 2218 Main St., Santa Monica around 10:30 am to ride as a group, visiting as many of the parks as possible until about 3 pm. Bring water, snacks, and sunscreen.

Another fun park of note’s the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council’s spot on Winston and Main, Los Angeles. There’ll be basketball games, live music, and even a dog park. Plus, two models will conceptualize Downtown’s future — and info’ll be available to get you involved in shaping the future of Downtown.

Once your park turns back into a parking spot, head over to the Park[ing] Day LA After-Party, happening at the A+D Museum, 5900 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles from 7 pm – 11 pm. What you can expect: Free drinks. Garth Trinidad. Ephemeral Parks.
