Pearl Jam fans: Get free concert tix for planting trees

Posted by Siel in environment, events, losangeles (Wednesday October 1, 2008 at 9:35 am)

Wanna see Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam perform — for free? Then sign up to “Dig It” with nonprofit North East Trees. Show up next Saturday to plant trees, help recycle, and take a community garden workshop — and you’ll get FREE concert tickets to see Stone Gossard and Hank Khoir at the Avalon that night!

When: Saturday, Oct 11, 2008, 8 am – 2 pm
Where: William Meade Housing Facility. 1300 N. Cardinal St. Los Angeles
Cost: Free with RSVP — plus free breakfast, lunch, and concert tickets!

The event’s put together by local eco-nonprofit North East Trees, equally tree-loving nonprofit American Forests, and Timberland as part of a nationwide Earthkeepers Dig It project “to improve environmentally neglected areas through tree planting and education.”

The event’s capped at 200 people — and 100 of those spots have already been taken! So Pearl Jam fans should RSVP ASAP to North East Trees’ Director of Community Outreach Nidia Garcia by calling 323.441.8634×11 or emailing nidia@northeasttrees.org.

  1. Busta Rhymes recently played a concert in London with four hours volunteering work as the catch for getting your hands on the only tickets to the gig (http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2008/jul/10/rockcorps.volunteering?gusrc=rss&feed=society).

Where mass mobilisation campaigns like Make Poverty History reached out to pockets of socially-concious people, these public-private partnerships have great potential to bring people *back* to community. – Mike

  2. I’m not sure how the Dig It event went, but I admire your optimism, Mike :)
