Phil Angelides

Don’t believe the governator-financed negative ads about Phil Angelides — Phil vows to raise taxes only for the really rich.

Listen to Phil talk ’bout what he plans to do on KCRW’s Which Way LA — The show aired 8/23/06, but the contents’ll be tots relevant till Phil hopefully wins in Nov.

As I’m sure you’ve heard if you’re a Californian who watches or listens to mainstream media commercials — Lotsa negative awards’ve accused Phil of wanting to increase the car tax, the sales tax, the property tax, and a helluva lotta other taxes.

But Phil sez v. clearly in this KCRW interview — He’s only asking “couples who make half a million or more a year to pay the same taxes that Ronald Reagan and Pete Wilson asked them to pay for.” Phil also wants to close up $2 billion worth of egrigious tax loopholes that benefit corporations that don’t need or deserve tax breaks.

“What I believe we need to do, is roll back some of the tax giveaways that’ve hampered our ability to help middle class families, hard working families, to fund education.” sez Phil, pointing out that it costs California residents $2K and $5K more to attend CSUs and UCs, respectively, since the governator took office.

Sez Phil about the governator: “When he says he won’t raise taxes, it means he won’t peel back any corporate tax breaks, he won’t ask the wealthiest 1% multimillionares to help us balance the budget, but he’s more than happy to cut education, increase college tuition fees, lay more burdens on middle class families.”

Phil really won me over when he mentioned Exxon and Monsanto specifically as corps that should NOT be benefiting from tax breaks — The breaks should go only to small farmers.

And he also pointed to something that really rang true to me: There are two Schwarzeneggers — The governing one, who plays almost entirely to conservative and corporate interests, and the recall / reelection one, who talks liberal trying to Cali voters.

True — I wish Phil did less neg advertising himself. He’s clearly liberal, but he’s also clearly played dirty. I don’t like Phil’s campaign tactics, and I hope he won’t be so gross as we get closer to the Nov. elections. Stop that, Phil.

But I also think Phil’ll be a much more “for the people” governor if he gets elected to the office.
