I’ve been working a lot lately, and the stress has been showing on my face — in the form of extra breakouts! So last week, I finally gave my skin some much-needed R&R — with an eco-friendly facial at Premium Skin Care by Diana.

At this green skin care spot, beauty seekers are treated to customized facials — crafted using natural and organic ingredients. Here, aesthetician Diana Ralys will pamper your face with the pure, beautifying power of plants known to be safe, beneficial, and effective — with none of the petroleum-derived ingredients, untested chemicals, artificial colors, or synthetic fragrances.

Of course, salons offering organic facials are popping up all over Los Angeles. What makes Premium Skin Care by Diana unique is that Diana combines her love of natural, organic, time-tested skin care with newer hi-tech techniques like LED light therapy, micro oxygen infusion, and even microcurrent treatment!

I got to try a little of both out with the Signature Anti-Aging Facial, a decadent, deeply-relaxing 90-minute skin treat. After getting me comfortable in the inviting bed in the luxe facial room, Diana first cleansed and purified my skin before a gentle extraction — then gave my face a series of skin treats to soothe, moisturize, and firm up my skin.

Unlike aestheticians who use facials as a means of pushing specific brands, Diana actually swears by skin remedies that she buys as pure, unadulterated ingredients. Two of her favorites? Witch hazel — which Diana gets preserved in ascorbic acid instead of the usual drying alcohol — is her pick for a natural astringent that soothes skin and reduces inflammation (including breakouts!). And argan oil — perhaps today’s hottest green beauty cure-all — is Diana’s go-to gentle moisturizer.

In addition to those pure skin treats, Diana adds on natural OSEA products for her organic facials. Made from organic seaweed and other marine ingredients, OSEA products are free of synthetic fragrances, genetically modified ingredients, petrochemicals, parabens, and sulfates — though a few do rank in the moderate hazard range on Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep cosmetic safety database. And on top of all that goodness, a mask treatment with mineral-rich volcanic clay firmed up my skin while Diana gave me mini hand massages.

At the end came the LED light therapy. With a protective cover over my eyes, a bright lamp was put over my face — first shining red, then blue. According to Diana, the red treatment basically helps rejuvenate skin, while the blue treatment helps reduce acne conditions.

Did the light therapy work? I’m not sure — It’s hard to tell if a warm light on your skin really changes your skin, though Diana says regular treatments should show a more significant effect. But the facial as a whole definitely left my skin feeling fresh, soothed, and calm. I really loved the gentle and pure effectiveness of Diana’s witch hazel-argan oil combo, and am planning to pick up the combo from the salon the next time I visit.
