Santa Monica to USC by bus, 2nd attempt

Posted by Siel in bus/rail,de-car-ing,environment,losangeles,santamonica (Wednesday October 25, 2006 at 5:53 pm)

277756629 3f37508136 m Santa Monica to USC by bus, 2nd attemptAll went well, pretty much, especially compared to my 1.5-hour-long 1st attempt, and my aborted pseudo-2nd attempt.

Except that I woke up too late to make it to lecture and just decided to go on campus late to deal with other stuff.

So: I caught the rapid 10 Big Blue Bus at 11:53 am. This bus dropped me off in downtown LA at 12:26 pm — just a half hour-ish ride!

From there, I waited for the F Dash, which arrived 10 mins later at 12:36 pm and dropped me off at the USC campus at 12:48.

All in all, a less-than-hour-long commute! Or just a few mins over an hour, if I time it from door to door.

My next goal: To try to do this AND get to school by 10 am, in time for that damn lecture –

Update, 2/7/07: My bus stop moved a block over, adding to bus-rider confusion –

  1. 10 am lectures are – I think – classified as cruel and unusual punishment….

  2. I can’t disagree. Of course, the fact that I’m writing this comment at 2:26 am may have something to do with why waking up in the am hours is so painful for me –

  3. HA I mock your 10am lectures–I used to have 8am lectures; of course I either skipped them or dozed off in class but that’s another story ;)

  4. Actually, they were 8:30am, but still.

  5. That’s the spirit! I remember having one 8 am class, in winter, in an overheated room, with 400 classmates. After the first two I figured out I might as well sleep at home instead ;)

  6. Yay! Congrats on your successful second attempt.

  7. I teach a college class that starts at 7:00 am that’s twice a week. That means I get up at 5:30. One student and I are always there at 6:45. I take the subway to get there (actually two subways). They are an excellent group of students, and I’ve had very few drops in the class.

  9. Siel, are you going to try other combinations, like 10-81 or 534-38, or has 10-F done the trick?

  10. I had an 8:30 class once — Luckily, it was French I — which I’d taken in high school. I’d literally put my head down on the desk and sleep.

Julia — Where do you teach? I’m quite shocked! Also, is this a science class?

Wad — I think for now I’m gonna stick to the 10-F — at least once for a pre-10 am arrival — before investigating others. I did notice that an 81 went by before the F this last go around, so it’s quite possible I’ll give the 10-81 a try soon –
