First, read the green frills and fluff post, and decide what you think ’bout the vodka, media furniture, and jeans in question. Then come back and answer the poll:

  1. I voted none of the above but I haven’t taken the compact pledge (I didn’t see an option for just “none”).

On the jeans, I’m tempted. Its hard to find a basic pair of organic mens jeans. I’ve gotten a few pairs of hemp ones over the years and the problem is they are always super baggy, not my style at all. Levi’s has one pair of organic jeans for guys, its $200 and its a semi-goofy style – I just want basic 501s. If these jeans are the right style, I’d actually consider it.

The Vodka: it’s a question of analyzing the whole lifecycle. Organic ingredients are good, but distillation takes a fair amount of energy, so the manufacturing process matters. However, according to BBC News, “Virtually all of its (Iceland’s) electricity and heating comes from hydroelectric power and the geo-thermal water reserves tapped from the hot rock layers lying just beneath the surface of this extraordinary island.” In other words, anything from Iceland is made with renewable energy, so if there is an Icelandic Vodka that’s also made with organic ingredients, then its the winner. But, I could only find one other Icelandic Vodka (Polstar) and it’s not organic. So I guess I’d just go with the organic ones you reviewed before, but that they are not made with renewable energy, so actually I’m going to have to change my vote: I would by the Reyka Vodka as well as the organic ones you mentioned, and wait for something better to come out that addresses all the lifecycle sustainability issues.

The speakers: simple, I’d get used ones.

You post pinpoints the problem we are facing today, which is a good one: how fast can we transform our systems to sustainability when the average person doesn’t know what sustainable means? We are trying to help address precisely this problem with the Responsible Purchasing Network (www.responsiblepurchasing.org).

  2. What about “none of the above; they simply don’t captivate me”?

  3. I don’t know how to vote on this … honestly!

I don’t drink alcohol (so no vodka), I can only wear pants with elastic waists (so no jeans) and my apartment is small with all space efficiently utilized (so no furniture).

There’s no vote option that fits all that. :(

  4. None of the above. I wear cotton pants, I don’t drink very much alcohol, and have no use for television.

  5. What is up with these no-alcohol peeps?! What brings you to green LA girl then? :P

Looks like a lot of people’re choosing the none option, for various reasons. The furniture — which has the least substantiated (as in little 3rd party proof) green claims seems to be the least popular.
