Saturday surveys: Eco-jumpsuit — Hot or not?

Posted by Siel in fashion, survey (Saturday February 28, 2009 at 7:17 am)

Are jumpsuits really coming back in fashion? Michelle Smith at Pretty by Nature seems to think so — and even outlines 5 tips for making the jumpsuit work for you before recommending an all-bamboo jumpsuit: The Elroy Apparel Davidia Jumper, on sale for $126 at Elroy.

Saturday surveys: Eco jumpsuit Hot or not?

My question is simple: Would you wear this eco-friendly, Canadian-made jumpsuit?

Cuz the model in the Davidia Jumper above wears it well — but I’m not sure that actually means the Jumper itself wears well. In fact, I’m wondering if the tall thin model with the cool purse and crazy hair — along with her choice not to wear a tank under the plunging neckline of the Jumper — is simply detracting from the un-prettiness of the Jumper itself.

Which is to say — I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pull of this look myself. How about you?

Poll closes Monday night.

  1. You know that I had to vote “yes.” ;D

If you don’t like this one, I’ve seen the jumpsuit in other forms, but yeah, I know I may not be able to win many converts. I really like the drapey-ness of this new wave of jumpsuits and there’s this touch of nostalgia that gets to me, too. If you could have seen my Mom back in the day, wearing her jumpsuit, heading out with her girlfriends – she was pretty incredible.

  2. What about a poll from male readers about whether we’d like to see women wearing these things?

  3. I’m not a fan of that jumpsuit. It would probably work better as separates, with a camisole underneath.

Jumpsuits, in any form, all share one major problem–you have to disrobe to pee. I am not a fan of any fashion that makes me have to nearly take off the entire outfit to to use the toilet.

  4. A jumpsuit seems like a good strategy for people with no hips or butt. I was losing weight recently and all my best jeans were starting to ‘jail’. My solution (I hate buying clothes) was to do some targeted weight training. It’d be interesting to see mechanics coveralls as a chic fashion trend, like trucker hats but more so.

  5. Maria hit the nail on the head. Jumpsuits have their advantages, but convenience in the restroom isn’t one of them. Science fiction writers and filmmakers seem to be stuck on the jumpsuit as futuristic clothing, which only suggests to me that they’ve never actually worn a jumpsuit.

  6. Feral Historian–it just goes to show that, in the future, humans will have evolved to recycle their own liquid waste.

  7. Good point re: the inconvenient peeing situation. I would have to not drink at all if I wore it to a party –
