Sea Wellness Spa at Casa del Mar: Luxe eco-pampering

Angelenos have a new option for eco-facials — very swanky ones at that. Hotel Casa Del Mar‘s officially opened up its new Sea Wellness Spa, which not only boasts an eco-friendly design but also offers organic spa treatments.

Those treatments — which start at $150 — include a 100% certified organic Seaweed Leaf Body Wrap, a Sea Mermaid Facial, and a Touch of the Sea Massage — using products made by Voya, an Irish company that’s proud to shun parabens, petrochemicals, phthalates, animal derived ingredients, and other eco no-nos.

Do make sure, however, that you get treatments using just Voya products. The spa will also be using Murad products, which doesn’t have such great eco-creds — plus an as of yet unknown third brand to be added in the coming months.

The Sea Wellness Spa’s eco-design really top eco-notch. Going way beyond low-VOC paints, the spa’s got ceilings made of Nass Fresco’s Med Fresco recycled glass beads and Natural Cork’s Earth & Classics Edipo flooring for its 4 treatment rooms, couples room, yoga studio / fitness room, and hypnotherapy room. The details too are eco: locally-grown drought-tolerant plants in vintage containers, RugMark certified handwoven rugs, 95% recycled marble countertops, and more.

The spa’s part of Hotel Casa del Mar’s new Wellness Your Way program — which includes the 10,000 step walk and its corresponding map, with the crazy “walk at your own risk” legalese I made fun of a while back.

Beyond the usual facials, massages, and yoga and pilates classes, the spa will offer some of the stereotypically L.A. “wellness” sessions, ranging from private hypnosis sessions to Kinesis (“exercise through a pivoted pulley system that targets muscles synergistically and builds strength, flexibility, coordination, posture control and breath control”) to neurolinguistic programming.

Not too keen on spending $50 on a “Harmonize Your Heart” service? Then spend your money more wisely at the hotel bar, which offers an Organic Orange Margarita made with 4 Copas Tequila.

  2. Thanks for the post Siel and nice comment Carol. As the Designer for the spa renovation, it was a wonderful experience working with Casa del Mar. I’m proud of how the hotel embraced green solutions and how the spa exudes the elegance and luxury that the client requested while staying on budget, on time and being sustainable. Being sustainable can be beautiful and within your budget.
