Sexy green bras are hard to find. Like really hard.
In my research, I found organic bras that were straightout unsexy: Decent Exposures and Cottonfieldusa. Dude, no.
Luckily, I got some leads from the Tuesday questions comments, which took me to Blue Canoe, avaliable at all sorts of lil etailers. My fave’s the Crossover Bra, left, made of 90% organic cotton and 10% lycra.
Patagonia has some cute stuff too: I especially like the Tiny Bra, right, made of recyclable Capilene.
But I was thinking more sexy than cute — The above are cute, not sexy so much, unless you think cute’s sexy, which I suppose it is sometimes.
The closest I could get to what I was looking for were Gaiam bras, namely the Unwired Back Closure, left, and the Organic Underwire Bra — both made of 90% organic cotton and 10% spandex.
I’ll be buying one of those soon. But at the moment, I have serious UK envy.
Why? The UK company enamore, a company making clothes from organic and recycled fabrics, is super sexy too (via Treehugger). For proof, see pic right.
I wanted one of these bras so bad that I emailed them asking if they shipped to the US, and how much it cost.
The bad news — Shipping to the US alone costs around £12. Each bra runs about £42. The total, £54, converts to about $99.65.
Which, okay, is still more affordable than La Perla‘s designer stuff. But still. Damn.
You can buy enamore via The Natural Store if you live in the UK; otherwise, you’ll need to email them to work out shipping deets.
US entrepreneurs — get on the making of sexy green bras.
In the meantime, girlies, here are deets from Bitch Ph.D. on how to make your current bras last longer, and how to buy a bra you’ll wanna keep for a long long time.
Still reading? Then waste some mo’ time reading about the Warm Biz Bra in Japan –
Update, 7/28/06: Rachel & Ismat of The Natural Store wrote to say they’ve worked out a new deal: Now, getting pretty enamore undies costs £6-£8 for shipping to the US. They also said that enamore’s stuff’s price is higher cuz they’re handmade, and the vintage material have to be resourced often –
Update, 5/13/07: Find green undies here.
Update, 2/21/08: I found and bought a new organic bra from Ecoland, sold at Whole Foods!

Well, thanks Siel, that Bitch Ph.d. post was a fun time sucker!

As difficult as it is to find nice green bras, it is downright impossible to find them in larger cup sizes. *sigh* I would probably just be happy with a regular bra that fit well and did not disintegrate in a matter of months. The search continues…

Yes, yes, we top-heavy women are doomed to more utilitarian styles. My faves are at Title 9, run by women, many athletes: http://www.titlenine.com/

I’m really bummed about the organic underwear options out there–they’re all so practical, functional, and terribly boring. Didja see enamore’s panties? Very very lovely. Major UK envy.

OMG. You are so right about Decent Exposures. It’s a good example of how NOT TO SELL your products. I felt bad and a little embarrassed by the sad state of the models. At least stand up straight!

I have recently bought some organic cotton wired bras from H&M. Some were more sexy than others. But they are far better than the drab looking ones you mentioned. Also I found a site that sells all those fancy UK styles to the US: http://www.noblivity.com/index.html
Check it out and hopefully you enjoy some European sexy eco-lingerie.

As an aspiring green girl I’ve always wondered whether organic and sexy can be used in the same sentence. Thanks to you and this tip, I’m pretty sure it’s possible! I’m really amazed by the enamore lingerie sets. So damn hot…
