YOU need to fight for the Expo Line phase 2 — which’ll extend the light rail line from Culver City to Santa Monica.
Right now, the fight’s going on without most of us getting involved. Friends 4 Expo wants the faster and cheaper route alignment (PDF), which allows for more at-grade crossings; The Fix Expo Campaign — which cries racism at every turn — wants the expensive route with grade separations throughout South L.A.
I’m with Friends 4 Expo. Below’s a chart the Friends 4 Expo put together that lets you see at a glance some of the key differences between the proposed route alignments. You can also read the full Draft Environmental Impact Report that details these alignment options on Metro’s BuildExpo website.

Get your comments in — even if it’s just to say which route alignment you prefer — by the deadline tomorrow! Or get to the next Expo Authority Board meeting, when the final route alignment recommendation will be decided:
When: Thurs. April 2 at 2:30 pm
Where: Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 500 W. Temple, Room 381 B, Los Angeles
Update, 4/3/09: The Expo Construction Authority Board of Directors gave staff the go ahead on studying the LRT-2 alignment (the option Friends 4 Expo endorsed) for the second phase of the Expo Line.
