Would-be eco-brides got treated to cocktails, cakes, and lots of eco-friendly and budget friendly wedding advice at Soi-Meme, an eco bridal salon in Los Angeles last Saturday.

Put together by Pink Cloud Events, Soi-Meme brought together gorgeous 100% recycled wedding invites from Wiley Valentine (above), local and organic flower arrangements Wisteria Lane (below), eco-friendly, customizable bath and body products favors from Safiya Beauty, sustainable wedding dresses from Puridee and many more green-minded products and services.

While last year’s bridal salon focused on eco-luxury, the recurring motif for this year’s event was going green on a budget. Dana LaRue, a.k.a. The Broke-Ass Bride, encouraged people to find unique ways to barter, trade, and share their way to an eco-chic event on the Green Media Mavens panel, along with Tracy Hepler of Your Daily Thread and Jen Boulden of Ideal Bite.

Other panels encouraged everything from DIYing to digitizing photos as a means of keeping wedding celebrations green and cheap. And throughout the event, guests mingled Frey wine and 360 Vodka drinks in hand, nibbling sustainable eats from Large Marge Sustainables and Good Gracious — plus dessert from Cakes by the Pound.

The heat wave kept people indoors most of the time, but the James Irvine Garden at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, where Soi-Meme was held, would be a gorgeous space for any event on a less sweltering day.

We see alot of eco weddings. Recycled weddings gowns are big.

I think wearing your mother or grandmother’s dress is a great way to save money and be “green” You can always get it modified to fit the latest trend. Buying a hugely expensive dress for one occasion is just silly to me.
