Starbucks settles with IWW Starbucks Workers Union

redglobe Starbucks settles with IWW Starbucks Workers UnionBack in November, I wrote about Starbucks employees’ complaints about the mermaid’s anti-union tactics. Those complaints turned into a National Labor Relations Board hearing, which took place this Monday and Tuesday.

And now, Starbucks has signed a settlement agreement, “resolving all unfair labor practice charges filed by the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) Local 660,” according to Starbucks’ press release (via Starbucks Gossip).

The posting on the Starbucks Workers Union website’s a lil more, um, descriptive: “Faced with the prospect of having its widespread union-busting campaign exposed in a public hearing, Starbucks agreed to remedy all of the myriad violations committed against workers who have organized a union.”

As per the agreement, Starbucks has to end threats, bribes, and surveillance of union members, and to rehire 2 IWW members who’d allegedly been fired for union activities. Starbucks also has to pay several employees about $2,000, and to post a notice in the 3 stores for 60 days affirming employees’ right to organize.

You can read the 5-page settlement for yourself on the Starbucks Workers Union website (PDF).

Just wanna point out again that the Starbucks Workers Union supports an increase in the mermaid’s fair trade certified purchases –- No latte, no peace!
