Question: I just bought a Townie and am looking for a basket for the front. I would rather have the “cage” looking type like you have, than the quick release baskets sold by Electra. I looked online at Helen’s cycles and they do not have any baskets for sale on their site (I’m in AZ). Can you please tell me the make & model of your basket? Mona

Answer: I knew I was a bicycling trendsetter! Not only did you get “my” bike, you now have basket envy too! I’d like to think I’ve influenced green-thinking girls across the nation to snap up pink Electra Townies via my blog. In fact, the Electra Bicycle people emailed earlier this week asking if I’d be interested in being part of their global campaign :)
But to answer your question: My basket’s Wald’s Quick Release Basket, manufacturing no. 133WH. A black version (133GB) is available too. Wald sells the basket for $25 on its own site, but you can get it for $14.40 on Amazon.
As always though, I recommend biking over to your nearest bike shop to see if they have the basket in stock there first. Beyond supporting your local economy and keeping your ‘hood bike-friendly, you could get some freebie help.
For example: Not only did a friendly dude at Helen’s Cycles sell me my basket, he also put a lil velcro-esque cushioning material on the mounting holder for the basket so it wouldn’t scratch up the front of my bike. And because I’m a pretty loyal customer, I feel like my bike gets a quick freebie tuneup whenever I go in — without my ever asking for such help. Knowledgeable neighborhood bike peeps are priceless –
