Sunday solutions: Eco-planner for 2009

Question: I was wondering where I can get an eco 2009 planner, and I thought you would be the best person to ask. Thanks, Elisa

Answer: You’re ahead of me, Elisa — I’m still trying to finalize New Year’s Eve plans right now…. But to answer your question –

Sunday solutions: Eco planner for 2009

Hands down, the greenest eco-planner IMHO is the Papergeist appointment book (above). I’ve gushed about this “post post consumer” company before, which creates the covers for its paper goodies from recycled record sleeves, then fills it up with previously used paper, folded so you can use just the clean side!

Brownline Ecologix planners (right), for example, boast 100% post-consumer recycled paper pages, covers are made of 60% recycled material with 30% post-consumer content, and binding made of 90% recycled material. Plus, you can get these planners at Staples in daily, weekly, and monthly versions. (via Treehugger)

Many other cute planners are marketed as green, but again, look for post-consumer recycled content info. The higher the post-consumer percentage, the better. You can even find Franklin Covey planner refill pages with 30% post-consumer recycled content, so there’s no excuse for buying a planner with no post-consumer recycled content.

I guess the main message I’m trying to get across here is to go beyond simple recycled content to find out what the post-consumer recycled content is, as the latter is much greener than the former.

For those enviros looking into the cute, green-marketed, San Francisco-made Sarah Pinto 2009 Weekly Planners (above): I do have an email in asking about the post-consumer recycled content of these recycled paper planners. I’ll let you know when I hear back. Update: Sarah Pinto planners are made with 100% post-consumer recycled paper.
