Get out of the office already! Not only is it gorgeous out, it’s also Park[ing] Day, and lil temporary parks dot our city!

In Santa Monica, Causecast, ThisNext, and Mahalo have taken out six blocks on Colorado at 9th. Visitors are invited to nosh on burgers and hot dogs while hanging out in comfy chairs and chatting with the wired people from these companies. Below: Sloane Berrent of Causecast, between friends.

Google too took part — though their teensy park outside the offices on Arizona’s rather pitiful looking, with no room for visitors, really. But kudos for at least putting one together….

Lots more parks can be found via the Park[ing] Day map — or the blogosphere. From blogdowntown and LAist:
>> LA County Bicycle Coalition‘s using a parking spot not as a park but as a bike rack location, “showing that twelve bikes can park in the space normally reserved for a single car.”
>> Winston Park(ing) Day site played host to a game for the Skid Row 3-on-3 basketball league.
>> Ladies who Lunch Park successfully discouraged a would-be parked car in Little Tokyo.
>> Urban design and architecture firm Torti Gallas and Partners have put up a picket fence, welcome mat and a For Sale sign at 6th and Grand in downtown LA, to show “the potential of a parking spot not only as a green space, but also as a place that can be reprogrammed with a variety of more valuable and dynamic uses.”
Oh — And don’t forget about the FREE Park[ing] Day afterparty happening at the A+D Museum tonight!

Sorry I can’t come to the party – it’s that swim over the Big Blue that makes thing a tad difficult :) This day looks übercool, I wish someone would do this in Sweden!
