My friend Damien tells me there was a girl wearing a shirt that said “Talk nerdy to me” at the WorldChanging party.
Damien: So I started talking about volcanos.
Me: Etna?
Damien: Huh?
Anyway — Just a note to say I’ve been nominated for the Nerdies, aka the 2006 City Nerd Awards, run by the LA City Nerd. Whoever nominated me, thank you, thank you.
I’m in 3 categories, I think…. In 1 of the categories, e;’s blogdowntown’s been combined with mine; in another, my name’s spelled incorrectly.
S’ok — The categories are:
City Nerd Blog. I’d like to note that green LA girl appears to be the only single-author blog nominated in this category — yay me! Other nominees are Mayor Sam’s Sister City, LA MetroBlogging, LA Taco, Curbed LA, LosAnjealous, LA Voice, The LAist, Franklin Avenue, and LAFD News & Information.
City Nerd Blogger: I’m listed twice on this one along with e;, but I think I’m supposed to be the 2nd (last on the list) one. Other nominees are Ed Fuentes of View from a Loft, The Atwater Village Newbie, Kevin Roderick of LA Observed, Zuma Dogg of Mayor Sam’s Sister City, Mack Reed of LAVoice, Walter Moore, Zach Behrens of LAist and In the Oaks, and Eric Richardson of blogdowntown.
City Nerd Citizen of the Year: My name’s really spelled Siel. Other nominees are Julie Inouye in Playa Del Rey, Zuma Dogg of Mayor Sam’s Sister City, Daniel Hernandez of the LA Weekly, David Zahniser of the LA Weekly, Mike of Franklin Avenue, Councilman Eric Garcetti, and Brian Humphrey, LAFD spokesman.
Vote for me if you feel I meet the criteria, which are:
-passion for Los Angeles
-knowledge of Los Angeles
-promotion of Los Angeles
-actual positive contributions to Los Angeles
I think my best positive contribution to LA so far’s been the election research I did for the Nov. elections –

Congratulations Green La girl or as gaeilge

Siel-
Those errors should now be resolved. Sorry about that! Thanks for what you do for Los Angeles and our world.

I don’t know the qualifications for a nomination here, but congrats!
Really, though, how is blogging “nerdy?” I mean, it’s “techie” I suppose, but blogging is hardly new anymore. And, establishing and maintaining one doesn’t generally demand much programming or technical knowledge. Finally, it goes without saying that in order to blog at all, one requires sufficient knowledge of I.T., and the web specifically. However, if you went to college and decided to graduate, then these tools are already a part of the workspace.
Given how maddenly complicated your election system is there, I’d have to agree that your election coverage was thoughtful and well-researched. I enjoyed doing some of my own, even though my two favs were losers and, overall, I only scored 1 in 6. It was a good time, and I’d do it again.
