Missed the Great Los Angeles River Cleanup? Me too. But I did go on a tour the LA River a while back, had lotsa fun, learned a lot, and took many many pictures.
So you should try it too. The next car caravan LA river tour‘ll be led by Jenny Price, author of “Thirteen Ways of Seeing Nature in L.A.”
When: 10 am - 4:30 pm on Saturday, May 19, 2007
Where: Meet at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens, 570 West Avenue 26, in the Cypress Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. (PDF map here)
Cost: $20 for FoLAR members, $25 for non-members, free for kids 18 and under. Sign up on the Friends of the Los Angeles River website.
Maybe you’ll even get to see the newly-opened park by the LA River on your trip. FYI — Communities beyond the city of LA — and thus left out of the LA River Revitalization Plan — are also planning their own parks.

And just for fun: Revisit a past clicklist item about fishing in the LA River. At least one angler thinks “fishing would be a great way to build a constituency for the city’s massive, multibillion-dollar plan to revitalize the river in coming years.â€
Don’t forget about the annual LA River Ride on June 10 (www.labikecoalition.org). They have several rides with the longest to Long Beach. I haven’t been on the ride yet, but have volunteered a few times for the event.
When I worked on Long Beach a couple of years ago, it was nice to be able to bike commute along the LA River.
