Just 9 months after Greenpeace launched its viral Traitor Joe’s attack, the organic-friendly grocery chain Trader Joe’s has promised to implement sustainable seafood policies.
Since Greenpeace started its Traitor Joe’s campaign, Trader Joe’s has already stopped selling Orange Roughy and Red Snapper — both “red list” fish that environmental groups urge consumers to avoid. Now, Trader Joe’s will put eco-friendly policies in place, with the goal to offer only sustainable seafood in stores by the end of 2012.
To that end, Trader Joe’s will develop greener buying policies and better label its seafood to reflect the exact type of fish, its origin, and catch or production method. With those efforts, Trader Joe’s will likely receive a passing grade in Greenpeace’s next report, Carting Away the Oceans, which rates supermarkets based on its sustainable seafood policies.

It’s great to see an organization make such a positive change in a store’s policies. It does pay off to speak up about what’s important to consumers!
(On an unrelated note: I received my “Green Careers for Dummies” book this weekend! Thanks!)

LIKE! if only all companies that get targeted made postive changes this quickly. Good news to hear, since I’ve been a long time fan of TJ’s!

I would say TJ’s practices were definitely out of line with its customers’ expectations on this one, so it’s good to see that the chain remedied the issue quickly :)
