Truly Raw Gourmet: Decadent sorbets made fresh, organic, and local

With more people concerned about strange chemicals and additives showing up on their ingredient lists, even Häagen-Dazs touts the fact that some of its ice creams are made with just five ingredients these days. But Häagen-Dazs has got nothing on Truly Raw Gourmet, a small but sweet Venice sorbet company that’s got local eco-foodies addicted to its cold concoctions.

Kippy Miller of Truly Raw GourmetIf you were at the Hot, Rich and Green event last month, then you got to taste Truly Raw Gourmet’s delicious desserts. Kippy Miller (left), half of the couple that founded this sorbet company, spooned out generous samples of her yummy sorbets — made with with fresh local organic fruit, raw honey, and organic coconut water and packaged in recyclable glass jars!

My favorite flavors were the creamier blends. Orange Sunrise tastes like the orange creamcicle of your childhood memories — except with more fresh fruity flavor. Strawberry Coconut combines luxe creaminess with tangy sweetness. And Chocolate Creme will really make you wonder how exactly Truly Raw Gourmet makes sorbet taste so rich and ice cream-like.

These simple desserts come in simple packaging with simple labels that don’t exactly stand out in the colorful ice cream section of grocery stores. But once you’ve tried these fresh sorbets, you’ll start looking for the basic, utilitarian Truly Raw Gourmet labels.

Find Truly Raw Gourmet sorbets at Co-opportunity in Santa Monica, Rawesome Foods in Venice, Pacific Coast Greens in Malibu, and Whole Foods stores in the L.A. area. The one downside of raw, organic goodness: Healthy decadence doesn’t come cheap. Each 9-ounce jar will set you back $10 — and leave you jonesing for more.

At least your indulgences won’t show up on your waistline; every sorbet flavor’s remarkably low in calories! Try following Truly Raw Gourmet on Twitter @weallsorbet to find out where Kippy will sample her wares next. In the meantime, drool over the photos of Truly Raw Gourmet’s sorbet-making process taken by Zach Behrens at LAist.

  1. I don’t understand the fetish for raw food. I mean, some foods are awesome raw. And some aren’t. Each should be served appropriately.

It’s like if I found a group of people who only liked foods that were red.
