Tuesday questions

Posted by Siel in questions (Tuesday February 7, 2006 at 2:42 pm)

A series that runs every Tuesday, where I ask random questions unrelated to the environment, fair trade, or local politics. Questions I’ve been wondering about but haven’t been able to google the answers to. Any advice is appreciated.

WordPress issue: I wanna look at all the comments made on green LA girl as a list (on WordPress Admin/ Manage/ Comments), but can’t figure out how to get beyond the list of the latest 20. Know of any hacks that can help me out?

For those in San Francisco — Is NaS still alive and well? Couldn’t make it over there during my visit…

Lastly, some maintenance stuff: If you haven’t bothered to update your blog in the last 2 weeks, you’ve been kicked off my blogroll. This doesn’t mean I don’t love you anymore — It means I don’t like clicking over to see the same old. I’m an impatient gal — Start posting yummy stuff again, and I’ll add you back on.

Administratively yours,
Siel

  1. Hey, Siel — I know there is at least one NaS in San Francisco; it’s across the street from where I work. Would’ve been easy to meet you at that one; I didn’t know it was on your to-do list! But it’s actually not that good (I’d give it a ‘B’/'B-’); from what you told me about wher eyou went, I think you made good choices.

  2. If it helps, lots of “downtown” coffee shops suck, in every city. Of course, Starbucks dominates these, which might explain the suckiness. Then again, I’m not sure how NaS sucks… Taste wise? Or atmosphere wise?

  3. If I were on your blogroll, I’d need to worry now ;)

    I’ll be coming back soon – it’s just that I’m switching ISPs *and* upgrading to WP2.0. Oh, and upgrading a bunch of other things. And that takes way more of my time than it should.

    Well, OK. I’ve got writers block. I mean, I’m still switching, and it’s a convenient excuse, but really – I’m topicless.

  4. It doesn’t suck — it’s okay. I will go again today or tomorrow to be fair. I haven’t actually reviewed them for the site or anything (so maybe that’ll be my next one . . .hmmm)

    But a better fair trade option close to me is Specialty’s, who always serves Intelligentsia’s (http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/store/coffee/org_fairtrade) Organic French Roast. Good stuff; only a buck if you bring your own cup.

  5. Re WordPress comments. If you have a file called edit-comments.php in your wp-admin folder, open it up and scroll down till you you see this:

    if ( isset($_GET['offset']) )
    $offset = (int) $_GET['offset'] * 20;
    else
    $offset = 0;

    Changing that 20 should solve your problem. Maybe change it to a huge number, or to “all’, or completely remove that bit of code. I dunno exactly what will happen – php is confusing!

    I’m still slightly disappointed about being removed from your links just because I don’t post as often as some. People use RSS thingies to avoid unnecessary clicking of the kind you refer to. I feel I’m being discriminated against for being a minimalist.

  6. Groby — But you have a permanent link via the Starbucks Challenge map at the v. top of my sidebar! :)

    beev — Damn — No such file in my folder. I’ll just have to remember to respond to comments in a more timely manner –

    Ah beev — Don’t be disappointed — You’re v. much in my bloglines, which, like you said, is what people use to avoid unnecessary clicking. My sidebar is there for clicking by my readers, however. Thus, bloggers of infrequent postings are indeed discriminated against –

  7. “beev — Damn — No such file in my folder”

    Are you sure? What version of Wp are you using?

  8. I use 2.0. I tried typing in both edit-comments and edit-comments.php in manage -> files. Wrong place?
