Time for Flexcar

Posted by Siel in de-car-ing,greenLAgirl (Friday January 26, 2007 at 11:50 am)

Now that Mut’s safely out of my hands, I’m focusing on car sharing and stuff.

And after the glowing article about car sharing programs in San Francisco (thanks, Larry), I’m pretty sold on the Flexcar idea. Actually, I was already sold — now I’m sold into taking action.

LA’s not quite like San Francisco — that city has 3 different options for car sharing!

Still, we have Flexcar down here, and there are a few only a quick bike ride away from me — So I applied a couple days ago. Unfortunately, it takes up to 6 days for them to get back to me. I’m assuming I won’t be rejected cuz I have a good driving record. Unless they’re biased against bloggers?

Looking forward to blogging about my first Flexcar experience :) Feel free to share your own in the comments as I wait in anticipation –

Also — if others out there are thinking of joining the Flexcar club — those in the LA area can take advantage of a lil special offer from Grist.

  1. Flexcar is interesting, but very expensive. Los Angeles has places like $6.99 Rent-A-Car. http://www.699rentacar.com While they also charge a mileage fee, most days I only drive 8-12 miles, i.e. home, office, train, office, home. Flexcar can’t give or won’t give you these pricing options. And, they refused to bring their business out to the Northeast San Fernando Valley.

  2. Hey Bart! This is indeed a great bargain! The problem is that they only have 2 locations, and neither are near me :( Would try it if I lived near them though –
