So last weekend Traci threw a pajama party, and after Sixteen Candles, we watched Clueless. (projected on wall, right)
And for the first time — I’ve watched Clueless at least a dozen times — I noticed the eco-bent! The step-bro guy’s all into TreePeople, and Cher gives lip service to helping out at some eco-friendly event –
Tenuous green link, yes. What I was really psyched to discover is that Six Feet Under‘s Billy Chenowith is actually the guy that leaves Cher stranded in the middle of nowhere!
One of my fave Six Feet Under scenes: When Billy and Claire are IM’ing, and their usernames are battybilly and icdeadpeople, respectively. Gotta love digital communication on film –
Also, I’ve been Netflixing old Simpsons’ stuff, and the lil film Homer’s company makes titled “Nuclear Energy, Our Misunderstood Friend” is hilar — and still timely. Nuclear energy waste gets swept under a rug, later producing scary 3-eyed fish –
Other funny green stuff you’ve seen in older green films and TV shows lately?

Simpsons and Futurama both have very pro-enviro messages very frequently, although they also often have an anti-government libertarian bent as well (see the episode about the endangered screamapillar? Not very pro-ESA).
I loved the Futurama episode about global warming (Season 3). Al Gore was an awesome guest star.
There was a bit on NPR today about how Fox is going to try to incorporate pro-green messages into their programming, in a non-overt way (that is, not by having a special episode where we learn a valuable lesson once per season). Didja hear it?
I was also just watching Lord Of The Rings, which has an overt anti-industrial pro-nature message. However, Tolkein clearly viewed certain kinds of nature (old gowth forests) as “good” and others (mountains and wetlands) as evil. That didn’t sit so well with this wetland ecologist!
