Vote! No on Prop 8

Posted by Siel in feminist/politics (Saturday October 11, 2008 at 11:22 am)

How I’m voting for the environment in the Nov. 4, 2008 election.

I think if I had my own way, I’d do away with marriage laws altogether. But since that doesn’t seem likely to happen any time soon, let’s vote against Prop 8 and for marriage equality.

I do have one related and rather important question that hasn’t been talked about at all in the media, as far as I can tell: You know how you can only register as domestic partners in Cali if you are 1) a gay adult couple, or 2) a hetero adult couple in which at least one member’s 62 years or older? Now that same sex marriages are a go, what’s gonna happen to the definition of domestic partnerships? Will it be expanded to include any couples of any age, or will gay couples be forced to marry if both halves are under the age of 62?

Or will the domestic partnership law remain as is, thereby actually granting gays the same marriage rights but superior domestic partnership rights than given to heteros? That would be a fascinating turn of events, no?

For an interesting brief history of gay rights in California, read this LA Times article, which says our state’s a leader when it comes to gay rights, regardless of what happens with Prop 8: California leads the nation in gay rights.

And for a tongue-in-cheek list of reasons supporting Prop 8, read David Markland’s humorous post, Top 8 reasons to vote yea on Prop 8. Reason 6: “If being gay becomes more mainstream, there will be less need of closets. Do you really want closet manufacturers to be laid off? Didn’t think so.”

Vote no on Prop 8.

  1. “How I’m voting for the environment in the Nov. 4, 2008 election.”

What does this article have to do with the environment? Anyway, sinse you somehow mixed environment and gay; if you want to save the environment, defend proposition 8.

Gays cannot reproduce, therefore, the human species dies. Without humans, much of the Earth’s needed Co2 supply is non-existant. Without Co2, the Earth withers away and dies.

Get it? Vote Yes on Prop 8!
