Vote! Prop 1C: Non-profit housing

Posted by Siel in feminist/politics,losangeles (Sunday October 15, 2006 at 10:54 pm)

How I’m voting for the environment on Nov. 7, 2006.

My vote on Prop 1C: YES

Prop 1C — aka the Housing and Emergency Shelter Trust Fund Act of 2006 — is a $2.85 billion affordable housing bond that’ll fund housing for low-income residents and promote development in urban areas near public transportation.

Basically, Prop 1C, as the League of Women Voters points out, would “fund programs to help the most vulnerable Californians: low income seniors, battered women, homeless families with children, and foster youth, as well as provide security improvements and repairs to existing shelters, accessibility improvements to apartments for disabled Californians, and housing with supportive services for the mentally ill.”

So — If, like reader David, you’re concerned about homelessness in California, vote yes on Prop 1C.

The Sierra Club sez yes. So does Habitat for Humanity, AARP, the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, The Congress of California Seniors, League of Women Voters, California Chamber of Commerce, California Teachers Association, California State Firefighters’ Association, and California Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO).

More on how to get involved on the Homes 4 California site :)
