[The kickoff post's here; dark red lines mark the streets I've walked so far; green lines mark Olympic and Pico]

Pico’s a street that’s been getting more attention of late, especially with the proposal to turn it and Olympic into one-way streets. I don’t think it’ll happen in Santa Monica, partly because the city’s recently poured a chunk of money into treescaping the street, in an effort to turn it from an eyesore into a prettier, pedestrian-friendly spot.
After all, lotsa people have to contend with Pico, like it or not — everyone going to SMC and Santa Monica High School, and everyone relaxing at Virginia Avenue Park.
On the eastern end of Pico, we have the Unurban Coffee House — which is a cool indie coffee shop but one that unfortunately doesn’t serve organic or fair trade coffee.
Moving west, there’s Santa Monica’s only Trader Joe’s — just far enough from me that I shop there only once every month or so.
From here on, big chunks of the street seem strip-mall-ish, with lots of chain fast food joints, smaller fast food joints, dingy-looking nail salons, thrift stores with bad selections and rather littered streets.
Just past Lincoln is Vidiots, one of the best film rental places in LA. And at Main, there’s Cha Cha Chicken (technically on Ocean) where I discovered how very yummy cantaloupe juice tastes.

For Santa Monica residents, the city planning department held workshops several months ago to have the community address their concerns, issues in reshaping the city.

Is this what you’re talking about? I wasn’t able to make it, but I do hope it went well. Do you know when the final LUCE update comes out?

Yeah, the placemaking workshops. Fixed the link and I’m not sure when something will come out? I guess the city is still working on it.
