[The kickoff post's here; dark red lines mark the streets I've walked so far]
If I had the money, I think I could be happy just eating on the 4-500 blocks of Santa Monica Blvd. every day. There’s Jack n’ Jill’s for brunch, Le Pain Quotidien for a lunch of fresh hummus plate and crisp white wine, Real Food Daily to meet all my organic vegan desires, and JiRaffe for high-end, special-occasion dining. All have tasty organic food and coffee –
Farther down, there’s the wifi’d main Santa Monica Public Library. Inside there’s the Bookmark Cafe with its organic coffee; across the street’s It’s A Grind Coffee House with Numi organic fair trade tea.
Around Lincoln though, Santa Monica Blvd. turns into a long strip of auto dealerships and medical centers, punctuated by a few music stores. The walking’s not so interesting here, but if you continue on just past the city border, you can rest your feet while drinking an organic siphon coffee at Cafe Balcony.
Update, 5/29/07: Here’s Montana and Idaho.

I find this to be an inspiring endeavor. How many of your readers have truly walked the places where they live? If more people started doing this, it would build a better sense of community and create stronger ties between us and our cities. Keep it up.

From 1993 to 1995 I lived on S. Westgate Avenue, and your blog brings back great memories of West LA and Santa Monica. I worked at UCLA and either took the blue bus or walked to work, under avocado and orange trees. Contrary to popular belief, LA is beautiful! Thanks for a great blog – can’t wait to read through you back posts.
