3329270156 4c1ba6fb5b t Watch Flow, then March for WaterCalifornia’s officially in a drought emergency, and World Water Day’s coming up on March 22, so Angelenos are taking action — by screening a film!

An award-winning documentary film, that is. Flow (For Love of Water), described as an “investigation into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century – The World Water Crisis,” will get a free L.A. screening on March 20, starting at 6:30 pm, followed by a Q&A with Steven Starr, the film’s producer. To see the film, join the Food & Water Watch L.A. meetup group and RSVP for the screening.

Then get ready to march! Flow inspired the March for Water, planned for World Water Day:

When: March 22, 9 am – 3 pm
Where: Start at N. Spring St. and W. Ann St., near Los Angeles State Historic Park and end at San Fernando Rd and Future St. at Rio de Los Angeles State Historic Park
RSVP: Requsted, but not required, on the March for Water site

The reason for the march? To promote responsible and sustainable water use. And to that end, there’ll be no one-use bottled water at the event. Marchers are encouraged to bring their own reusable containers, which can be refilled at water stations set up for the event. Don’t have a reusable bottle? Then be one of the first 500 people to sign in and get a free 24 oz stainless steel water bottle.

Pre-march activities will begin at 9 am at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. At 10 am, the march begins; the route’s under 3 miles. Then from noon to 3 pm, there’ll be a “Water Celebration” at Rio de Los Angeles State Historic Park.

A whole bunch of local and national enviro orgs — including Sierra Club, Friends of the L.A. River, and Heal the Bay — are behind the event, and a number of school groups are expected to join the march too.

Not in the L.A. area? Many World Water Day events are happening across the U.S. Fin an event near you on the World Water Day website.

  1. I think that this film should be available in it’s entirety for free at least on the internet. The trailer is not good enough, it doesn’t explain the severity of the issue. I have seen the film and I have seen the trailer, I don’t think people are going to run out and buy or rent it from the previews. The film should be free just like the water should be.

  2. Free would be nice, but I do think the people who worked on the film need to be compensated for their work somehow.
