Californians are taking charge of greening our country!

>> U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer is the chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee — and she’s introduced 2 big green bills: A directive to the U.S. EPA to develop a carbon cap-and-trade system by amending the Clean Air Act, and a $15 billion a year grant program to support clean energy innovation.

>> U.S. Congressman Henry Waxman’s the incoming chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

>> California Air Resources Board chair Mary Nichols is considered the top contender for the EPA Chief position in the Obama administration. Grist caught up with her earlier this week.

>> Cali governor Schwarzenegger says he’s willing to work for Obama’s administration.

  1. Sounds like Arnold wants to get out of his job before the tough decisions need to be made. If I were Barack, I’d tell him that he can have a position, but first he’s got to restore the vehicle license fee and perhaps introduce a repeal of prop 13.

  2. Mary Nichols is great! She lives in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles, and I’ve run into her at local restaurants in Koreatown. She’s done great work as California Resources Secretary under Governor Davis and was excellent appointed by Mayor Villaraigosa on the board of the LA Department of Water and Power. She spearheaded a lot of state investment into revitalizing the Los Angeles River! Go Mary Nichols!

  3. I didn’t know Mary was in our ‘hood! Which K-town restaurants does she frequent?
