A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.
Today’s giveaway’s a 100% bamboo T-shirt from CertainTees, a super green tee company based in Chicago.
First, the tee: It’s size small with a V-neck, and looks like the pic to the left except it’s green (right).
CertainTees are made with bamboo grown and turned into thread in China, shipped by boat, then woven and sewn in the US. Then the tees are custom printed — with water-based, low impact dyes — by Lee Tracy, who’s started the company in her quest to change the world.
At $54 before shipping, the tshirts aren’t cheap. This, however, is partly because CertainTees has chosen NOT to externalize so many of the costs of doing business like most companies do. For ex, CertainTees offsets all the CO2 emissions from operating its business via Native Energy. Shipping packaging’s recycled and recyclable, and contains no plastics.
Moreover, $5 from each women’s tee goes to The Voices and Faces project. Each T-shirt also comes with a cotton shopping tote — made in India and soon to be certified organic — and a cute bookmark with a hemp cord that doubles as clothing tag.
You can check out CertainTees on the web or at a couple Chicago stores.
To win the T-shirt: Comment or email by Friday; drawing happens Saturday. US only.

I love that this shirt is bamboo. We have a program, called Walls2Canvas, that is youth driven and our goal is purchase silk screen equipment for them because they already do murals, canvas pieces, and paint directly on shirts, back packs, hats, etc.
I’d love to have them get bamboo shirts to paint on!
