Freebies: Barbarella Papergeist journal

Posted by Siel in freebies (Monday January 26, 2009 at 8:00 am)

A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.

3203024600 9e821d6cdc m Freebies: Barbarella Papergeist journalIn celebration of Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival, a new freebie will go up every day this week!

Today’s giveaway is a Papergeist journal — with a Barbarella cover!

Described as the “post post consumer” notebook, Papergeist’s products are among the greenest you can buy. The cover: a vintage record sleeve. The pages: previously used paper, folded so you can use just the clean side!

Aside from the spiral cord binding, everything here is post-consumer — reused rather than recycled, since there’s no additional paper mill involved. And since vintage record sleeves are hard to come by in bulk, each journal is totally unique.

My friend Summer — who sells Papergeist notebooks at her online eco-boutique BTC Elements — gave me one of these for my birthday a couple years ago. I’ve given them as gifts too — and recommended the planner version for environmentalists who want to stay on top of things in 2009.

 Freebies: Barbarella Papergeist journal

Once you’re done with the journal, all the paper can be recycled again, of course — though this time, via the blue bin system involving a paper mill. And best of all, the coil too can be sent back to papergeist — 501 W. 124th Ave., Tampa, FL 33612 — for $5 off a new notebook! Take it out carefully so it can be reused! You can participate in this creative recycling by sending in old record sleeves too!

Comment on this post by Sunday to get into the drawing, which’ll happen Monday (more info on freebies here). US addresses only.

  1. I’m so in love!

I used to do this in college to make my school notebooks — Most college libraries have a binding machine, recycling bins are easily raided, and old posters for campus events make great covers (for example, my entire senior year is covered in Demetri Martin’s appearance on campus).

DM may have been great, but he’s no Barbarella.

  4. Barbarella album cover? Wowza. That is pretty freakin cool, almost sounds like a pity to see it on a notepad. But i’m sure it was a unusable copy.

Great giveaway. Good luck to everyone.
