Wednesday freebies: Dakine Project Blue Oceana Surf Pack

Posted by Siel in freebies (Wednesday April 22, 2009 at 7:28 am)

A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.

Today’s freebie’s a Dakine Project Blue Oceana Surf Pack for women — an eco-friendly backpack for a cause that retails at $74.95!

Made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, these backpacks feature recycled buckles, a seam-sealed wetsuit pocket, insulated cooler pocket and other organizer sections.

This Dakine Backpack’s part of Project Blue, a partnership between big surf brand companies and the nonprofit Surfrider Foundation, a nonprofit “dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches.” Basically, seven brands — Billabong, DAKINE, Electric, Nixon, Reef, Famous Wax, and O’Neill — have created products for project BLUE, with $2 from each item sold going to Surfrider Foundation.

The $2 dealio’s sounds like a pretty decent eco-commitment to Surfrider for the less expensive items — like the $29.95 organic cotton T-shirts from O’Neill — but a less impressive commitment for the expensive stuff — like $160 sunglasses from Electric. DAKINE Channel backpack’s somewhere in the middle. Check out the full line of Project Blue products here.

Comment or email by Sunday to get into the drawing, which’ll happen Monday (more info on freebies here). US addresses only.

  5. I’m in!! I can feel the win. Thanks for coming to bloblive the other week…it was great to meet you, if ever so briefly. We’re planning a more focused social entrepreneurship themed event for mid-May…pre-screened ideas, etc. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

  6. Hi Siel!
I would love to have this backpack because it has several features that I like. One of them is the insulated cooler pockets. Since returning to school, I have spent so much time trying to find a backpack that is useful as both bookbag and as a carrier of food and beverages. I’m a graduate student and would love to cut down on my personal waste by bringing food in reusable containers from home.
    Hope you are well!

  8. What a great give away! Don’t include me, as I have enough bags, but thought it was cool enough to comment! I like how so many companies are getting involved in even the smallest of ways to make a difference.
