Wednesday freebies: I’m not a plastic bag either tote

1317379261 33359169d0 m Wednesday freebies: Im not a plastic bag either toteA twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.

A new twist on the Anya Hindmarch handbag craze comes in the form of a cotton tote bag from Vital Juice Daily — You know, that new Ideal Bite-esque e-newsletter I mentioned.

Organic? No. Made in China? Yes. Somewhat thin and flimsy although strong enough to carry most things lighter than a bowling ball? Yes.

So I’m not quite sure what the Vital Juice Daily peeps were thinking when they got these bags made, though I’ve said as much for the Livingreen totes too. In any case, it’s now in my hands, and will hopefully soon be in yours to put to good use at your local farmers’ market or wine store –

Comment or email by Friday to get into the drawing, which happens Saturday. US addresses only.

  2. Chico Bags are a great alternative to this flimsy, non-organic sack–they’re way more chic and practical!

I have my own and it’s great. It folds into itself so that it’s small enough to put on your keyring and then folds out to the perfect size for grocery shopping.

They are nylon for durability (but the company has a recycling program for expired bags) and are super cute coming in so many great colors–hot pink, bright organge, dark blue with baby blue trim..

They’re $5 each, but apparently New American Dream–an eco non-profit–is giving away 50 free ones during November and December as part of their Carbon Conscious Consumer (C3) campaign. (This month they are giving away a $500 Powell’s Bookstore gift certificate).

All you do is go to their website http://c3.newdream.org and pledge to do that month’s eco-friendly step (easy stuff like, bring your own bag).

Chico bags also has a hilarious “Self-Test for Single-Use Bag Addiction”. Check out New Dream for a free bag (http://c3.newdream.org) and the Chico Bag site at ChicoBag.com .

  5. To be entered, go to http://c3.newdream.org .

There you “pledge” to take an eco-friendly step by entering in some info (don’t worry, they never never sell your email address–it’s just to update you about the C3 contest).

This month’s prize is a $500 gift certificate to Powell’s–the biggest independent bookstore in the world. Go back in November and December to get a free bag!

  8. Just the idea of these tote bags makes me happy. It’s amazing how many plastic and paper bags I have saved over the last couple of years by bringing my own bags to the grocery store.
