A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.

Today’s giveaway is a set of two reusable bags, given out as shwag bags at events around town:
>> A Get Hip Get Green tote made of polypropylene — a.k.a. virgin plastic that’s recyclable in some towns — that was made in China, though a little notation says it was made under fair wage / fair labor conditions.
>> A very large Green Works drawstring bag, made of cotton — not organic, according to the tag — in India. I got this one at the Green Blogger Convention.
Is anyone else growing concerned about the large number of reusable totes and bags that have no real green claim whatsoever beyond the fact that they’re reusable? I hope all of them are at least being put to good use — Please heed the bag rule.
Comment by Tuesday to get into the drawing, which’ll happen Wednesday (more info on freebies here). US addresses only.

Good point– reusable bags are great, but I’m seeing more and more that aren’t made responsibly. Will there be a point when too many reusable bags are in production?

I often tend to feel we’ve actually already reached that point, but this may be because I go to a lot of eco-events where shwag bags are given out. Obviously, not everyone goes to as many of these types of events as I do — but seriously, where are all these bags going?

Right on, Siel! I’m noticing more and more that being “green,” for the sake of being trendy is overtaking being “green” for the sake of the environment. It’s a shame really, but I’m glad you’re speaking on the subject.

I’ve actually seen tote bags over $100 which obviously are for looks more than anything else. Personally, I will never replace my fine $1 or free tote bags that I’ve gotten when these over priced tote bags. I’ve loving the “Get Hip Go Green” tote.

I plan on putting our family and friends gifts in reusable tote bags! Thanks for the giveaway!
