Wednesday freebies: Skatebook and other toys

Posted by Siel in freebies (Wednesday January 7, 2009 at 7:15 am)

A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.

From the various schwag bags I get at events, I’ve amassed a collection of stuff that’s not quite eco, too heavy to ship, but worth giving away. Thus: Today’s freebies are open only to LA-area people who can pick up the object of their desire –

1. Skatebook 3: The Lance Mountain Volume. This hardcover coffee table book of skateboarding images are sure to please — skateboarders (i.e. not me). I got this in my shwag bag from CONNECTED, the pre-party for the Abbot Kinney Festival.

2. Toy Big Blue Bus. It’s about a foot long, and it rolls. I got the thing as a “gift” for being a panelist at the “Transforming Transit” Symposium during AltCarExpo — but I’m not sure what anyone who’s not a kid or a pack rat would actually do with it. If you’ve got a kid you want to turn on to public transit early, this toy’s for you.

3. Toy fish. This shiny soft cloth toy, which fits in the palm of your hand, was created to promote the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Sustainable Seafood Guide. The toy itself, however, doesn’t seem all that sustainable, as it was made in China with what seems like a very synthetic material. Cute though. I got it at the Environmental Media Association awards.

Due to the size and weight of the freebies, these giveaways are open only to LA-area people who can pick up the item from Santa Monica. Comment or email by Sunday — and specify what you’d like — to get into the drawing, which’ll happen Monday (more info on freebies here). US addresses only.

  1. I would love the Skatebook as a gift to my Green Life Sustainable Works host for letting me into the workshops. I work in Venice and would be glad to stop by and pick it up. Thanks!

  4. I don’t skateboard, but I love urban photography and sports photography, and skateboard photos are typically both, so I’d go for the book. I’d even be willing to make a trade for a bike tail light if you’re still riding with out one.

  5. The Skatebook goes to Gary and the bus to Kira — on whom I hope to also foist the fishie –
