Young, proud, and busy

If only I were young again…. If I were, this would be my schedule for the next few months:

Apply to the Youth Service America / Youth Venture Program. This program provides funding and support to young people who want to create new, sustainable, civic-minded, and youth-led organizations, clubs, or businesses. The program’s a joint partnership between Youth Service America and Youth Venture.

You gotta be between 12 and 20 years old, you gotta follow the instructions here, and you need to get that app in by December 18, 2006. Yes, it’s really coming up.

Apply to be part of the Oxfam International Youth Partnerships (OIYP) 2007-2010. OIYP is a global network of young people working with their communities to create positive, equitable and sustainable change.

Basically, 300 people between 18-25 years-old are selected from across the globe (past participants have come from over 150 countries) for this 3-year program; they “earn about and participate in issues of trade justice, HIV/AIDS, labor and employment, indigenous rights, sustainable development and agriculture, peace building, human rights, health, youth empowerment and education.” Applications, avaliable here, are due January 31, 2007.

Get to the 2007 United Students for Fair Trade Convergence. This is a must, for all high-school and college-age students — and really, anyone young at heart!

Where & When: Boston, Mass., from February 16-19, 2007

The goal’s “to engage and inspire students to act for greater social and economic justice and equity around the world. I went to the last 2 convergences; the 1st one was part of what propelled me to start this blog. Be there, and be inspired. Here’s the registration info. Questions and comments can be sent to Tawny Elgatian at tawny_elgatian@yhaoo.com or Christina Ma at Christina.c.ma@gmail.com.

Inspired by USFT, and don’t wanna stop? Drop by the Rocky Mountain Sustainability Summit: Forging Solutions at Colleges and Universities.

Where & When: University of Colorado at Boulder from February 22-23, 2007

This summit includes featured speakers, a Green Products Expo, as well as sessions, panels, and workshops “for representatives from campuses in the Rocky Mountain Region to learn about a variety of environmental issues facing institutions, explore ways of improving campus practices and policies, and ultimately work toward boosting the triple bottom line of environmental, social and economic sustainability.” Register here :)
